Dr. Moeen-ud-Din Aqeel, due to his meritorious services in the field of Urdu language and literature, is a towering figure in the world - wide Urdu literary circles. He is known as an eminent scholar, a prolific writer, a keen researcher, a literary critic, and a devoted pedagogue. Due to his scholarship, he holds the place of a connoisseur in the field of “Urdu Language and Literature”, “Muslim History in the South Asia” and “Studies on Iqbal”. He has been writing ceaselessly and so far, he has written almost 100 books and 600 research articles. He has won many awards including Sitara-e-Imtiaz conferred upon him by the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his academic services.
He holds a Ph.D. and a D.Lit. Degrees. He is a linguaphile and well versed in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, English, Italian, and Japanese. He has been rendering services in many universities and institutes on higher posts in Pakistan and abroad. Many dissertations at Master, M.Phil. And Ph.D. level have been completed on his works and still many more are in the pipeline.
He is a renowned figure on the far-fetched land of Japan. As a professor of Urdu language and literature, he taught in Italy. He had been to Japan many times for teaching. First time, from March 1993 till April 2000, on the invitation of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, he taught at Osaka University and Daito Bunka University in Japan. Later, from October 2007 till March 2008, he worked as a part time Professor at Research Institute for World Languages of Osaka University. He taught at Daito Bunka University from July till September 2008 as a part time Professor and since July 2008 till October 2008 at Department of Graduate School of Asian African Area Studies of Kyoto University, Japan.
In recognition of his meritorious academic services between Japan and Pakistan, the Emperor of Japan bestowed upon him the highest civil award of Japan:
“Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon”.
On getting first position in M.A Urdu, Anjuman-e- Taraqi-e- Urdu, conferred upon him “Baba-e-Urdu Award”in 1969. Allama Iqbal Open University gave him the “ The Best Teacher Award” in 1983 and the same was done by the International Islamic University, Islamabad in 2023.
