Sultan Bahu was a great Punjabi poet.In his poetry, he emphasizes on knowledge of real love and character building. Effectiveness and meaningfulness is the special feature of kalam_Bahu.His poetry has elements of truthfulness and upright character, aversion to hypocrisy and introspection is encouraged. He has a unique and high position in Punjabi poetry. Sultan Bahu's poetry shows vastness and sophistication. He doesn't divide the human personality into material categories. Sultan Bahu's ideal person is a "dervaish" who is devoted to divine love. According to him, the external sciences are not the purpose of life.Human beings did not progress spiritually through these sciences, but obtained only material interests. Bahu taunts Hafiz and Mulla, who are hypocrites and consider themselves superior to others. He presents specific ideas of love, knowledge and self realisation.Iqbal,s poetry also has more and less the same ideas. Sultan Bahu is the milestone of the great poetic tradition that reached Iqbal. An eloquent attempt has been made in this article to examine the influence of Bahu on Iqbal.
